What a change in lifestyle...

by Codewiz51 February 26, 2009 07:49

Well, I'm finally situated in San Antonio.

I've discovered three really big changes in my life:

  1. San Antonio traffic
  2. No computer in the evenings
  3. No family to engage with in the evenings

Hello From San Antonio

by Codewiz51 February 23, 2009 20:51

I have taken a temporary assignment with my company in San Antonio. My blog entries are going to be  intermittent, as I don't have access to a computer in the evenings. This all happened on short notice, so I am still digesting the opportunity and my new surroundings. If all goes according to plan, I should be in SA for about three months.

Hopefully, I'll come across some neat topics to write about as things calm down.

Avoiding the stuff I thought I would be tinkering with...

Have you ever had one of those breaks in time, where you actually avoid working on stuff you thought you would be working on? I've been avoiding WinROTT and DCDFLIB for quite some time. I've been doing a little bit of work running DirectX examples, trying to understand how I am going to port WinROTT to DirectX. But mostly, I've been playing around with VMWare. I'm currently downloading the latest release of FreeBSD, version 7.1, which I intend to run on VM Ware. I used to live and die by FreeBSD and Apache, when I owned and ran Tetron Software, LLC. Most of my web work revolved around Apache and an environment called Mason. Anyway, I digress away from my laziness.

Why I appreciate some technologies...

by Codewiz51 February 16, 2009 08:03

I thought I might follow up on my previous post, regarding technologies. Even though I regularly avoid many technologies as "frills" or "fads", there are some technologies that work their way into your life in a mindless fashion. They're simple to learn, simple to use and completely functional.

Once such technology is the DVR. AT&T makes my DVR scheduling available from the internet. I am a big fan of Battlestar Gallactica on the SciFi channel. I knew I would be absent on Friday night, so I was able to record the episode (actually, I record the series). On my return Sunday, I settled in and watched my show, and even skipped the commercials! Nifty technology.

Why I detest most technologies...

by Codewiz51 February 14, 2009 07:49

My relatives assume because I can program computers that I am automatically a technology bug and an expert on all sorts of gadgets.

My friends know that nothing could be further from the truth. I absolutely detest most technology, and I have very little use for it outside of my day job. I feel like computers will be worthless until they are so reliable and perform their tasks so unobtrusively that they become a refrigerator. Refrigerators are completely reliable and completely out of our daily thoughts.
