This has been a very interesting project. My boss designed a nifty product which has been well received. My involvement has strictly been with the installation. I have been forced to discover a lot about Windows and DVD file systems while figuring out how to get 50,000 images on to a hard drive in a reasonable amount of time.

I completed reading Terry Brooks' Armageddon's Children last night. I liked about 99% of the book. Unfortunately, the book builds to a crescendo and then ends (actually, it jumps off a cliff), urging you to purchase the next book in the trilogy. Even though I enjoyed the story line to a certain degree, I dislike the sort of ending Mr. Brooks handed me. I much prefer Bernard Cornwell's approach. You can pick up one of the books in his trilogy and be perfectly satisfied you've read a complete story. No "wait 'til next year to read what happens" verbage.
I managed to make some progress on the dcdflib library tonight. I was able to clean up a routine named cdfbet. This was a fairly lengthy bit of code, but it cleaned up nicely.

Simon Johnson presents a critical analysis of the financial-political alliances ruling our country. Not sure I agree with everything he says (after all, he's an MIT prof and an economist for the IMF), but what he says is disturbing at best:
The Quiet Coup. Has our government become the
bureaucratic nightmare so feared by our founding fathers?

I lost my taste for blogging while I was in San Antonio. I also lost my taste for staying up 'til 2AM coding. I was forced to re-discover life without computers. I discovered life and the pleasures of reading and dining out with friends. I had a small kitchen in the motel where I was staying. I cooked in the evening. I love Mediterranean and Indian food and I was able to prepare all sorts of meals. I also worked out twice a day, in the motel "fitness" room. The last thing I thought about was sitting down and writing about some inane subject.
I have a new favorite author for the time being: Bernard Cornwell. I read "The Archer's Tale" (Grail Quest triology) and "The Pale Horseman" (Saxon Chronicles) while in San Antonio. I love historical novels. If you are interested in life in 500-800 A.D. England, you might enjoy these tales.

I cannot describe how good it feels to say that word. Home. It is where my heart is. I am home.
