The weather this week has been incredible. In August, we typically have temperatures in the upper 90's or low 100's °F (32 to 38 °C). Yesterday, we were at a pleasant 82 °F (28 °C).
While I was clowning around with the camera, I was able to take some photos of a rapidly building rain shower. The graphic at left is a combination of three photos I took over a six minute period. What made this shower so unusual is that if formed east of us, and then moved in a westerly direction. When it hit, we had a five or six minute very heavy down pour, which is always good for the pasture this time of year.
This was also a chance to practice with GIMP. I scaled the original 1600X1400 photos to 320X240. I created a new canvas with dimensions of 320X720 and pasted the scaled photos on the new canvas. I merged the image layers and saved the picture as a PNG. Not very difficult for the pro's, but trying to line up the pictures by hand was not easy. The last two photos are off by two pixels, even after trying to align the images.
Rocket has really fattened up nicely. When we purchased him a year and a half ago, he looked like a typical race horse: lean, all muscle and his ribs were showing. Under Missy's care, he's put on some weight, his ribs are not showing and he's a lot less "spooky". Life is pretty good for Rocket now-a-days.
