In the spirit of austerity, I've been checking out a few places for cheap, but not heart attack inducing lunches.
One of my favorite cheap places is Wendy's. I shouldn't call it cheap. Wendy's dollar menu contains a lot of consumer surplus.
The double stack: A 99¢ double hamburger with a piece of cheese. It's small but filling. Your heart recommends not eating five of these at a sitting. One of these and a side salad offers a satisfying lunch for about $2.50.
Slightly more heart friendly is the Crispy Chicken sandwich for 99¢. Coupled with a side salad or a side Ceasar salad, you should be good to go.
Splurge and get a "Go" wrap ($1.49), plus a side salad and you're still eating for less that $3.00.
I like these "value" lunches: no fries, and plenty of time to take a 20 minute walk after lunch. As long as you don't sit on your fanny for the entire lunch, a little fat from the salad dressing and sandwich shouldn't cause too much damage. Couple it with some psyllium husk in your cup of water plus a walk and you might actually end up a little healthier after lunch.
