Sometimes, the young turks don't understand when the old guys have to go home at five on occasion. I just couldn't stay to see if my Oracle script operated correctly. The console looked good when I left, and I am guessing everything went well. Even if it didn't, I'll learn a lot more about the problem by reading the spool file in the morning. I'm going to resist using the VPN tonight, and instead, I'm going to get a good nights sleep. However, just because I left work at 5:20 PM doesn't mean I put on some shorts and goofed around.
Updated: The PL/SQL script worked flawlessly. I was able to move my Oracle database schema and data to a new server. Thank goodness for PL/SQL Developer.
Today was my day to cook dinner. My wife had left a pork loin out to thaw. It cooked to perfection over a charcoal fire, moist and tender. Coupled with roasted ears of corn (cooked on the same grill with the meat) and steamed asparagas, dinner was fairly tasty and nutritional. Unfortunately, I messed up the rub and put too much celery seed on the meat which sort of "blanded" out the flavor of the other ingredients. As my wife said, the meat's perfect, the spices not so good.
This was also a "honey do" evening: my wife wanted a dimmer switch for her new light fixture in the dining room. I also needed to have a talk with my 16 year old daughter about why she cannot date a 21 year old "just for the summer". (The conversation wasn't real pleasant, there was quite a bit of frustration on my daughter's side.) The toilet upstairs was not flushing properly (valve thank goodness, no blockages.) I made plans to fix the dripping shower faucet and install a new light fixture in the breakfast area tomorrow night, making sure I had gathered the tools and parts I will need. And of course, the trash needed taking out. (Farther down on the fix-it list: the bolts that hold the muffler to the lawn mower engine apparently vibrated out again.)
Just another day in paradise for a C++ programmer.
