I had a few moments away from work a couple of days ago, and I decided to download a copy of Micorosft's Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. I have to admit, it's an impressive piece of software.
I won't extol the virtues of the product. There are many excellent articles describing its use. Instead, I want to make you aware that you can only use the product for 30 days unless you register. This means you must create a Windows Live ID. I am not a fan of Microsoft's data collection, but in my line of work, having a Windows Live ID is a necessity for gaining access to MSDN subscriptions. While the product doesn't cost any money, it's important to know the product is not free. Microsoft wants some information from you. Since I already have a Windows Live ID, I didn't give up any extra information, but you might want to think twice if you have qualms about giving away email addresses and such.
Remember, just because something doesn't cost any money, it doesn't mean it is free. When the vendor expects something in return, the product is not "free". There is a cost.
