Windows XP, Easy Transfer and Windows 7 64 bit

This is a quick atta-boy concerning Easy Transfer...

I replaced my wife's HP Pavillion (Model a1250n) with my Gateway GT5040 tonight.  The HP computer is working fine, but it has become very slow to use for reasons I have not been able to discern.

I was prepared to spend the next few hours transferring accounts and data, but decided at the last minute to try Easy Transfer.  My new(er) Gateway GT5040 computer had the same applications installed on it, with the exception of Quicken.  (We were still using Quicken 98, which I upgraded to Quicken 2011, another pleasant upgrade as well.)  The version of Office would change from Office 2003 to Office 2007 when moving to the Gateway from the HP machine.

I was able to transfer my wife's documents, emails and Picass photo's in about 30 minutes (14.5 GB), along with all of the data in the Shared Documents directory (8 GB).  My wife's data was all in Office 2003 format.  The Gateway computer is running Office 2007 on Windows 7 64 bit.  The transfer was very smooth.  I did not have to perform any tasks other than follow the on-screen instructions for Easy Transfer.  Email came up without a hitch.  Picassa came up without a hitch.

My wife now has a dual monitor, much faster computer which she loves.  My desk has my new laptop, a second monitor and a whole lot more space.  (I also have an HP Pavillion a1250n for sale.)

Thumbs up on Easy Transfer, Microsoft.
