On Wednesday, June 15th, my family and I visited our local Outback Steakhouse. I don't usually go to this restaurant because I find it expensive and the food is only "fair". This last visit was disappointing, even by the fair standard. My daughter and wife enjoyed their steaks. I ordered a ribeye cut and was I ever disappointed. The meat was not well marbled. It was full of silver skin and gristle. The meat was cooked exactly the way I ordered it, but the toughness of the meat and the need to hack away at the gristle detracted from the overall experience.
House salad: Good
Baked potato: Good
Steak: Cooked perfectly. Cut of meat was disappointing and did not resemble a well marbled ribeye. Flavor was fair. Lack or marbling was probably healthier, but detracted from the meat's flavor. Overall, very disappointed.
Service: Good
My daughter wanted a Bloomin' onion. I found this "appetizer" to be soggy with oil. The top layers of onion were excellent. Deeper into the onion, it was obvious the product was not well drained and had not reached a temperature high enough to crisp up the batter.
A family of three ate for about $70 including tip. (No alcohol, just soft drinks and tea.) I think this was a bit steep.
I still prefer to buy my ribeyes from Roger's Meat Market and grill them at home. My heart and veins tell me to skip any thoughts of eating a Bloomin' Onion.
