I've not been posting much lately. I used to spend hours working on code that interested me. However, a year or so ago, I realized I needed to get more exercise and lose weight. I started eating right and engaging in a number of outdoor activities. I began a process of reading for enjoyment, rather than reading for programming. I started to work 8 AM to 5 PM, rather than 12 hours per day. It's working. I've lost 16 lbs. I can ride my mountain bike for a couple of hours. I'm correcting some decades long overdue drainage issues around the house. Sometimes, I come across code that interests me and I will work on it, but only after I've done my chores or ridden my bike. I'm usually too tired in the evenings to concentrate very long on difficult code.
The result? I am healthier and happier, but my job performance is suffering somewhat. Occasionally, I think I am going to get back to coding intensely. But I never do. I'll have to start writing about things that I am interested in. And coding isn't one of the things I am interested in at the moment. Life is too much fun when you stop sitting on your butt.
