This web site offers content about C++, C++/CLI and database coding. I've posted some example RAPI code which uses CLI on the wiki.
I'm Gene Harris. I've been developing software systems for a living over the last 25 years. I cut my teeth on IBM Fortran G and H compilers in the fall of 1970. I learned interpreted BASIC on an IBM PC2 in the early eighties, and C on Microsoft XENIX systems. I favor native C++ code, COM+ and Message Queues. I've also dallied with Visual Basic 6.0. Currently I produce software using C++.
I use WTL, ATL and Boost frameworks professionally. For database work, I use Oracle XE, PL/SQL and OTL. I am investigating MySQL and PostgreSQL due to the high costs of commercial databases. I like the free "Express" versions of SQL Server and Oracle, but the licensing and availability of free versions worries me. I am intrigued by the recent improvements Microsoft has made to MFC in Visual Studio 2008.
For fun, I am working on the clean up and port of the old DOS game Rise of the Triad (WinROTT) to VS 2008.

My old blog is codewiz51 on blogger.com. There is a lot of material in my old blog that I am moving over to my wiki pages.
I use a wiki for my development notes and to keep links to topics I find interesting. The wiki is located here.
I've placed a couple of articles on Code Project.
